It's like talking to myself, but with an echo
My dad and I pulled up to the house this evening after he picked me up from work. He was planning to go out again tonight, so he didn't park in the back driveway the way we usually do. I looked at the house and said to him "Mom's not home yet." He said, "Well, it's five minutes of six, so she should be home by now." I looked at the house again and said, "Well, okay. She just must have forgotten to take in the mail."My dad then "discovered" my initial observation and said, "Oh. Then I guess your mother isn't home yet."
Thanks for clearing that up, Dad.

Title? I've got nuthin'
I am completely in love with Williams-Sonoma. I love their cookware, their spices, and the fact that they make dishwasher liquid but are too snooty to label it as such. I love the way the Williams-Sonoma at the Time Warner center smells, and the fact that there's a baker or chef on hand everyday to pick up the temptation where the products themselves left off. I cook too infrequently to buy much (anything) from there, especially since my mom is very much in charge of the kitchen and only looks for visitors when it's time to clean up (which, I guess, is reasonable).A large part of the reason I want my own apartment is so I can cook all the time and then invite people over to eat it.

It doesn't matter!
I don't care how much snow there is on the ground, I can't help but add a little spring to my step everytime I realize that weatherwise, it really will be spring sooner rather than later. That's just exciting.

Good times
If there's a better way to spend your Monday night than to go to an awesome Christian band (Jars of Clay) and watch other attendees get drunk and rowdy, I have yet to find it.3.12.2004

Dude, wipe your nose
Don, an older man, is in my new Pilates class. He's noticeable for several reasons:1) He's the only man.
2) He wears these creepy little cut-off leggings.
3) He's the world's biggest suck up.
I've never taken Pilates at all, but it's clear that Don has. He tries to be the teacher's pet, but clearly she's frustrated with him. It's obvious that this is not the first of her Pilates classes that Don has taken; when she got to his name on the attendance sheet she said, "Oh, Don," in a resigned voice. It was funny.
He gets to the gym early and does these ostentatious exercises for about twenty minutes, even though there's a thorough warm up during class. We actually thought he was the teacher at first, since he was doing so much before exercising class started. He makes loud, funky, completely voluntary noises when we're doing our breathing exercises. He interjects phrases like, "I hate this one!" during exercises. He might as well say, "Please look at me?"
I might be more willing not to consider him a joke if it didn't look as though the hour he does Pilates is the only one in the week where he gets any sort of exercise. He's got a gut like Homer Simpson, and turns an unhealthy color when doing the more strenuous exercises - and since this was only our second class, that cannot be good.
I thought people like Don disappeared in sophomore year, but apparently not.

Play ball!
Hey, New Yorkers (and Northern Jersey peeps)!I need your knowledge. I want to start playing baseball/softball again (well, actually, I've never been on a softball team, only baseball, but I'm willing to try). If you know where I could join a coed team, drop me a line? I don't do nearly enough these days, and I feel like I've aged 32 years in the last 8 months. Help!

I felt like I was trapped in a cross between an old SNL skit and a Suave commercial
There I was, sitting on the bus, just wishing that I was home. I wasn't paying much attention to the people around me, cause I'm selfish like that. Plus, I was tired. I was looking out the window when the loudest conversation on the bus, which was also the only conversation on the bus, reached my ears. Three men were discussing taking care of their bodies, and one guy completely shocked the other two by telling them that he was 40 years old. I have to say, I was surprised too, since he looked to be in his late twenties/early thirties. I still have no idea how the conversation started, but I kept listening from that point; anyway, the old-but-not-really gay said how it's important to start taking care of yourself when you're young, which is typically the time when people pay their bodies enough attention and do all sorts of things to abuse it. He listed it all - drugs, poor diet, little exercise, too little rest, etc. I put in the etc, but he took a minute or two to list every possible thing that one could do to one's body. After he finished, I wasn't just impressed with how young he looked - I was just shocked that anybody could do all that and still be alive. That guy must have the best genes ever.

Just go away, alright?
There's a guy at my job who thinks he's my boss. This would be okay, if he actually were my boss. It's a tricky situation because he's sort of just there all the time. I don't want to be rude to him, but it's annoying to have him try to pass work along to me when he doesn't really have the authority to do so. In the beginning (meaning about 3 weeks ago - he's new), I just went along with it and helped him out, because he was sort of floundering. I did it to be nice, not because I had to. He didn't understand the difference, so recently I've been letting him know that I have my own work to do, and that he'll have to get his stuff together without my help. He has a whole office full of underlings, but since I actually sit closer to him than they do, he's taken it into his mind that he's in charge. The power structure at my job is weird and one's standing is never assured, but I do know this - you're not my boss, guy, so back off.

As if starting at 9:30 on a Saturday morning wasn't evil enough
I'm taking a course so that I can volunteer as an ESL/Adult Literacy tutor. I've done similar work in the past, and I really enjoy it, but do not enjoy the teaching style of the people leading the course.Maybe it's just because I've been out of college for several months now and am no longer used to sitting in a class, but I really don't think that's it. They're alternately patronizing, explaining easy concepts several times - and this is not just my opinion, but also that of others in the class who've never before done this kind of work - and then annoyingly blythe when it comes to giving non jargon-y explanations of ESL/education theories that those of us who haven't gone to school and studied these fields.
There are only three more classes left, but I am already resentful of losing another 10.5 hours of my life to these torturous classes.
